Volunteerism and Your Insurance

Many people use their private vehicles either for their volunteer work or for their paid work. There have been growing concerns in the past that these vehicles must be insured for business comprehensive insurance for the protection of their owners. Majority of these vehicles are being insured as private even though they are being utilized for business use.
Some insurance companies have started to take notice and have updated their definitions of what is private and what is business. Many insurers are now requiring paid workers that use their own cars for work purposes to insure their vehicles for business use. Insurers must be informed exactly as to what extent the vehicle is being utilized for business purposes. This step will allow insurance providers to issue policies more attuned to the needs of the car owner.
